A softly draped blue fabric covers a bust, lending the composition a calm, almost sculptural effect. The warm brown tone of the model creates a charming contrast to the cool blue of the fabric, while light and shadow impressively emphasize the plastic effect of the subject. The deliberately minimalist depiction draws the eye to form, material, and the subtle nuances of the color scheme.
This work was created during her visit to the Freie Kunstschule Böblingen in 1995/96 as part of a study assignment based on a carefully arranged bust. Even in this early work, Iris' confident sense of proportion, material effect, and precise depiction of light and shadow is evident.
